Environmental policy

The ROY company operates in an environment that it shares with:
- local residents,
- the flora and fauna which inhabit the land, air, and rivers near the site.

Our obligation - in so far as it is economically possible - is to find ways to preserve this environment:

- by fully respecting the relevant current regulations
- by progressively reducing our negative impacts
- and by looking to make the most of the positive impacts that our activities might have on the environment

With this in mind, we are setting up a range of measures and procedures that we will improve on from year to year. This represents our environmental management system.

- It is specific to the ROY company and involves our four sites at La Noubleau (blasting, quarry, factory, workshop, asphalt station, shipping, laboratory and offices), La Gouraudière (blasting, quarry, factory, workshop, stabilisation plant, shipping), Niort and Tours. It will be described in the company’s "Environmental Quality" handbook, which will be available to all staff. The Environmental Manager will be responsible for making sure that the policy corresponds to the company’s production, shipping and maintenance operations.

- We are committed to sustaining and improving the policy by means of annual Management Reviews.

- We must operate in complete compliance with environmental regulations, with particular regard to exploitation regulations and the laws relating to water, air and waste.

- We shall identify and assess all of the impacts that the production and transportation of aggregates have on our environment. This will enable us to identify our priorities for action.

Our main objectives are firstly, to improve our control over the risks of major accidental pollution and secondly, to reduce noise pollution, the vibrations caused by explosions, dust emissions, the discharge of pollutants into the river Thouaret and the Pressoir stream and the risks relating to heavy trucks. Other objectives may be added to this list.

(Declaration made in the ROY Quality Handbook)

This policy is already very much in evidence, as shown by the following actions:

- The organisation of local consultative and monitoring committees in which local residents, representatives of local authorities and associations, elected officials and the Regional Office for Industry, Research and the Environment (DRIRE) all participate.

- Adoption of the selective sorting of waste, along with dust and noise reduction measures.

- Construction of embankments in order to reduce visual impacts and noise pollution.

ROY has held ISO 14001 certification since January 4th 2005
